[Oh no you don't. This time he's actually a little more on guard. He catches Sougo's hand, letting go of the lantern. The brightness stops increasing further, though it's already giving off a lot of light right now.]

[Tch. Damn. At least your reflexes are back to normal this time. The light definitely helped, though.

Speaking of the lantern, as Sougo only has a loose grip on it now with one hand, it starts to float up and away to light up the starless sky. Sougo turns his head so his eyes can follow its trajectory.]

Now look what you did. We don't have our lantern anymore.

[When in doubt, blame Hijikata.]

[He looks after it too, albeit he stays on guard for any further surprise attacks from Sougo.]

That's what's supposed to happen. It only floats up when it's got enough chroma to give off to the stars.

It's got enough chroma 'cause of you being lovey-dovey and shit. I don't think it goes up to the real stars. Just enough so that you don't see a terrorist coming to get you.

[Sougo doesn't know how this logically plays out, and he doesn't really care. However, you're still gripping onto his hands and that's unacceptable. So now his next tactic is to try and knee you in the gut and then follow it up with a headbutt if it hits. It will be all the more painful for you since he just punched your stomach earlier.]

[He quickly shields his body with his arms, then goes for a reprimanding head chop with the edge of his hand, pissed off.]

[Oof. He flinches as the head chop gets to him. But he rubs his head while still looking at you straight on with an incredulous expression.]

[So has Sougo! But both Okita and Hijikata are birds of a feather in that way. He'd be down for lighting another lantern, although he'll try to rustle your jimmies again.]

[He offers his hands for the lantern and to moonlace.]

[Sougo considers the fact that...there's somewhere in the back of his mind that says, yes, Hijikata is one of your closest friends. But he buries that in a matter of seconds as he always does. Despite his insults, Sougo reaches for you with his free hand nonetheless; his other hand is holding the lantern.

Is he holding onto you too tightly? Good. He'll try and dig in his nails in the back of your hand, not letting up his grip for a moment.]

Shut up!! I told you already that I only put purple energy in there! And stop clawing me, you beast!!

[Regardless of his bitching the lantern starts to light up with a predominantly purple glow.]

I'm not putting any red energy in there. It's you.

[Okay, enough teasing, he is DONE with your lies, Hijikata! He gives you the most incredulous look and he won't let up on his claw grip.]

At least this one is mostly purple. But that's because of me.

And I keep telling you, all the purple comes from me!

[Deep down he knows he cares for Sougo. He respects his talent and strength, and when things get serious he'll always cover his back. But damn him if Sougo isn't an absolute pain in the ass to have as a subordinate.]

Maybe this is just as purple as it gets. Maybe it's just more of a violet... Sougo, I said stop clawing me!!

[He'll ignore your cries for him to stop. Do you think he'll let up on you that easily? Still though, he's getting impatient. There's only so long he can go holding your hand, even if he is trying to hurt you.]

[He's pretty sure it's the same colour as before - a lot of purple, some orange-red, and it mixes together into a pinkish tone in some places. He grits his teeth and bears the sting of Sougo's nails. After a few more moments he thinks the lantern is feeling lighter. Is it starting to float?]

[Maybe it is! Sougo notices it's feeling lighter too. However, he's not feeling as patient as you are. He lets go of your hand (finally) and holds the lantern in both of his hands for just a moment...

Before hurling it up into the air.]

Sougo!!

[He hurriedly jumps up - ow, his stomach - and opens his arms to catch the lantern, but rather than crashing down it gently floats back towards them.]

Can we just finish this?!

[Ugh, there are nail imprints on the back of his hand.]

Calm down, I just wanted to make it go faster.

[See? The lantern didn't even crash. It's supposed to fly up all along. Throwing it up was worth it to see you vainly jumping up and down to try and get it, though.]

Alright, we're done now.

[He puts his arms behind his head and starts walking off. Although he may quickly change his mind and try to give you a parting prank.]

We're not done!

[The lantern is coming back down after all, gently trundling towards his waiting hands.]

Come back here and finish this! It doesn't need much more chroma.

[Good thing you redirected him from getting his mind off thinking of a prank. He turns back around quickly. Sougo wants to intercept the lantern before it comes back to you...just so he can throw it back up in the air then. YEET.]
